On a visit to Parliament House in Canberra on Thursday 18th September 2008 at the reading of the new organ and tissue donation bill I was invited to have morning tea with the PM in his private office.
Kevin received a heart valve and Zaidee also donated a heart valve to a new born baby which we talked about.
I presented a pair of Zaidee’s Rainbow Shoelaces for which the PM said he does not wear laces in his work shoes and will put them in his runners instead.

“The AFLPA are delighted to be able to be involved in such a wonderful project to help create awareness for Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation organ and tissue donation program. It is a very special program which has helped to save lives already and through this activity the AFLPA hopes that even more lives will be saved via this very worthwhile and needy cause,” said Cory McGrath Indigenous Program Manager.

Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation would like to thank all Australian families who have been in a position to have a member of their family become an organ or tissue donor and help increasing our donor rate in 2008 to 259 organ donors, an increase of 30.85% from 2007 results of 198 donors.

Thank you Australia for making 2008 the greatest result in 40 years for organ donation with 259 organ donors. The families of those who’s family member that gave the greatest gift of all after death or as a live donor should be proud of this result.
The figures for 2007 was 198 donors.
This is a 30.85% increase a result that should again be the aim to be achieved for 2009. An extra 220 people benefited from the increase in donation in 2008, which was 846 recipients in total for solid organs. These 846 people who may not be alive to celebrated a Christmas and New Year, who’s loved ones now say goodnight and good morning everyday due to someone thinking of others at the time of the end of their life.
Having that discussion prior to anything happening is our message to you, would you be an organ

The Board members of Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation are people with passion, some with a very close and strong links to organ and tissue transplantation. All Board members are volunteers who contribute their time, experience, and are alarmed with the lack of Australians not donating at the end of life.
